Safeguarding and Child Protection

Our Pride Our Joy is committed to the highest standards in protecting and safeguarding the children entrusted to our care. We will support all children by:

  • Promoting a caring, safe, and positive environment within the nursery and clubs

  • Encouraging self-esteem, confidence, and independence.

We recognise that some children may be the victims of neglect, physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. All staff who work with children are well-placed to identify such abuse through annual training and weekly meetings. To protect our children, we aim to:

  • Create an atmosphere where all our children can feel secure, valued, and listened to.

  • Recognise signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect.

  • Respond quickly, appropriately, and effectively to cases of suspected abuse.

We monitor and listen to all our children to identify possible problems. Where there are serious concerns about a child’s safety, we will share our concerns with the relevant authorities. We record all concerns using the Academy monitoring software ‘My Concern’.

Where applicable, we work closely with other agencies such as the Police, Social Care, and the Health Service to ensure all children are kept safe.

From time to time, many families may find themselves in difficulties. In Our Pride Our Joy, we pride ourselves on building strong, positive relationships with our families, so if you are struggling or need help, we can offer support through completing an Early Help Assessment. This may include signposting you to other agencies who may be able to offer help and support.

Designated Safeguarding Lead

The Manager at each Nursery and Care Club is nominated to have specific responsibility within the setting for child protection matters, specifically:

  • Taking lead responsibility for dealing with child protection issues.

  • Providing advice and support to other staff.

  • Liaising with the local authority and working with other agencies.

  • Providing support for individual children.

  • Completing Early Help Assessments with families in need.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead for Our Pride Our Joy is Mrs. Sharon Shilling (Regional Manager).

We believe that children should be given the opportunity to learn about, explore, and experience different festivals and celebrations to understand their community as a small part of the wider multi-cultural society in which they live.

We have adopted the principles and advice found in ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.
