Curriculum

At Our Pride Our Joy there are four underlying principles to our curriculum which are underpinned by the Prime and Specific Areas of Learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The first of these we call ‘Community’. Within this principle, we teach children how to care for our environments and animals, ensuring they develop a sense of responsibility and an understanding of sustainability. We look at seasonal changes and life cycles and enjoy sharing our cultural differences through first-hand experiences.

Wellbeing supports developing emotional literacy and resilience. Through co-regulation strategies, we develop children’s ability to self-regulate and manage conflict in a positive way. Through establishing a sense of themselves, we promote confidence, self-esteem and empathy for others.

We actively teach them new skills which will support them throughout life. Independence, resilience, perseverance and turn-taking, run alongside; being motivated and active learners ready to take risks and rise to challenges.

Our final principle is ‘knowledge’ and this covers all areas of learning, including foundational maths, literacy and phonics. We focus on the knowledge and understanding of these subjects at a basic foundational level, challenging children appropriately through play to ensure they make progress.

Only when these four underlying principles are addressed equally will our children learn to become the resilient, caring, independent individuals needed to face the ever-changing future they have inherited.
